After having a blast making comedy flick Horrible Bosses together, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis have reunited for We’re the Millers.
Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), Jennifer plays Rose – a stripper who agrees to trade in her fishnet stockings for Capri pants, posing as a suburban housewife as part of her neighbour David’s (Sudeikis) Mexican drug-smuggling scheme.
Jennifer says even though Rose takes the job for money, she actually gets more out of the road trip than a pay cheque.
“I think where she has ended up in her life is certainly not where she expected to be,” the star reflects.
“There are a lot of defences built up, so her tough attitude is just a little bit of armour. And I think that in going on this crazy adventure, her soft side and the soft parts of her, the maternal parts, are just naturally pulled out.”
Jennifer says they tried to ground the film in reality, while remaining conscious of the absurdity of the situations the characters find themselves in.
“We just played everything as real as possible, poking fun at ourselves,” she says. “Even our attempt to escape or save the day didn’t take itself too seriously.”
The other two in the fake family unit are the “kids”: Casey, played by Emma Roberts (Valentine’s Day), and Kenny, played by British actor Will Poulter. Emma admits she enjoyed revisiting the bad attitude she once had in her own teen years.
“She’s so sarcastic and is miserable for a lot of the movie,” Emma says. “It was fun to play her, just because I got to do a lot of eye-rolling and huffing and puffing.”
Her greatest challenge was being away from family and friends for the film’s three-month shoot, but Jennifer helped her out.
“She was so nice,” Emma recalls. “We hung out a little bit outside of work and she was just the sweetest, most down-to-earth person. I’ve always been such a fan of Jennifer, so to get to work with her was really, really cool. Jason is also hilarious. He was really funny. A lot of stuff he ad-libbed and we would be dying laughing, trying to hold it in so we could get through the take.”
We’re The Millers is coming to cinemas August 15. Warner Bros Pictures and the Weekly are giving you the chance to win one of 20 in-season double passes to this flick.
