The multi-talented actor has returned to our screens to co-host The Great Kiwi Bake Off. She lets us in on what a typical day in her life looks like, her hidden talent and some of her favourite things.
My typical day…
I’ve got a nearly two-year-old, so my usual morning routine is being woken up by her.
She’s just started stringing a lot of words and sentences together, and I don’t know what this says about my parenting, but it’s usually a little tap on my face and “Mumma, TV, chocolate” – just the things that she wants – the remote, TV, chocolate, okay.
That’s my usual start to the day – being woken up early by a very chirpy toddler.
I don’t get to sleep in any more – that would be a luxury.
Workwise, currently it’s the classic parent with young children trying to juggle everything, and figuring out how to parent and work at the same time. Because I have a flexible job in the arts, and I don’t have to do 9-5, I can actually try and work that out a bit more than the average person who has to do those hours. We’re both artists, so we can plan our hours around her, which is really nice.
If I was stranded on a tropical island, I would need…
A penthouse with solar energy and a coconut tree that fruits well!
The funniest person I’ve met is…
Fred Armisen.
My hidden talent is…
a pretty good impression of ’90s pop singers. My go-tos are Britney and Anastasia.
My last supper would be…
Probably a platter of food from across Asia. There’d have to be a curry in there, a bánh mì, Japanese teriyaki salmon, some Korean barbecue.
The person I’d cast in a movie about my life would be…
J.Lo. I thought she was amazing in Hustlers. She’s a bit older than me, but you wouldn’t be able to tell because she doesn’t look a day over 36. Either J.Lo or Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who’s one of my favourite comedic actresses.
The movie I’ve watched the most in my life is…
The Sound of Music! It is my favourite movie of all time. It’s got everything – music, beautiful mountains, nuns, and thrilling action and dance sequences – what more is there?
