“So I have some news. This has not been an easy decision to make, but after almost ten years it feels like the right time for a new challenge,” Matty McLean wrote on his Facebook fan page this morning, announcing that he’s leaving the country and his “second home” at TVNZ to give the UK a try.
“I looked like a high school student who had borrowed his dad’s suit for the school play, but it was genuinely the culmination of a life-long dream,” said the reporter who got his first break on Breakfast as a fresh-faced 20 year old in 2007.
“It has honestly been the most incredible time of my life. I love meeting people and telling stories, and the opportunity to do that on a daily basis has been nothing short of amazing.
“I’ll absolutely miss it here like you wouldn’t believe it.”
Matty’s last day at TVNZ is April 8.
Good luck, Matty – the whole country will miss you!
