Morgan Harrison: NZ’s greatest swisssh

Model Morgan has hair so healthy, it shines.

Hair-model competition winner Morgan Harrison was born lucky. She’s had the Midas touch all her life, even helping her mum win prizes when she was in utero. “My mum won $10,000 in Lotto when she was pregnant with me,” Morgan says.

Then last month, the country girl from Thames was named the new face of the Pantene Aqua Light range. Morgan (22) has claimed the $10,000 prize money – some of which is going towards paying off the new car she’s already bought. Weeks later she became the face of another beauty brand, Colorevolution, and won a photoshoot.

Growing up on a dairy farm meant she never had much time for makeup, so becoming a model for Pantene is out of Morgan’s comfort zone. “No-one believed that I won until I posted the picture on Facebook,” says Morgan, who was born with gorgeous thick hair.

But there has been a small downside to her win – she was asked to cut 5cm off her mane before modelling in the advertisements. “It was quite upsetting, but I went to a salon in Parnell in Auckland to make my hair fall in an even ‘swish’.”

After moving to Auckland two years ago, Morgan is happy in her day job selling industrial gearboxes that are used to drive assembly lines. Normally a male-dominated job, she’s worked her way up after starting as a data entry operator. “It’s not easy, it’s complicated. I could supply something and it could blow up, so I’ve got to get the system right.”

Despite winning two modelling competitions, Morgan doesn’t believe she has a future in the industry. “I would go for it if I got the opportunity, but I don’t think I’ve got the body structure to be a model,” she smiles.
