Finding love

Dear Jay-Jay,

My ex was the only person I’ve ever been in a relationship with. I have no idea where to start with dating in 2023 and my friends are not being helpful! In fact, they’re treating it like a joke. Have you got any advice for me? Also, do I really need to get my huhu waxed?!

I can’t tell if they’re serious or not about that.

Your friends love you and are trying to help you in their own special way!

Being single after a long time hooked up can be overwhelming. I’ve been there too! And the dating landscape has changed a lot. There are many ways to meet someone, though. Dating apps can be hit and miss, but when it’s a hit, it can be fantastic. Just be wary that what you see is not always what you get. But it’s a great way to go man- shopping from your couch!

I prefer the old-fashioned way of meeting someone… organically. This means you are going to have to get out of the house and accept as many invitations as possible. When I met my boyfriend Hoani, I was invited to a dinner party. I was tired and didn’t really want to go, but I dragged myself along.

Hoani was invited too and after having a large weekend, he also wasn’t in the mood, but went along “for a bit”. Well, imagine if both of us stayed home – we may not have ever met! I wasn’t expecting to meet someone and neither was he, which is why it’s so awesome that we did.

It may sound weird, but joining a group of some sort is also an amazing way to meet people – even if it’s a gym class, a sports team or a chess club!

As for getting your “huhu waxed”, your friends are teasing you again. I’m pretty sure you want someone to love you for you, so don’t do anything too far out of your comfort zone. Your girlfriends probably let it grow wild again after pinning down their man too!

Whatever you do, just relax, be you and remember to keep an open mind.

Good luck, Jay-Jay
