It was goodbye to high school sweethearts Jay & Sarah last night on My Kitchen Rules New Zealand, after Wellington workmates Jess & Stella out-cooked them in an intense semi-final.
While both teams were neck and neck throughout the first two courses, it was a dessert disaster that was responsible for the cute couple’s downfall as Jay mistakenly threw away the silken tofu they were planning to use.
The mishap saw the parents-of-three fall seven points behind their competitors come judging time, with Liz Egan labelling their brandy snap with tofu-inspired parfait “less than perfect”.
“Your dessert screamed pressure and heartache to me,” she told the pair.
While their journey at Kitchen HQ is sadly over, the parents-of-three left the competition holding their heads high.
“For us just to be here in the Semi-Finals is a huge accomplishment,” says Jay. “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster.”
“It was really fun cooking with my babe, he was a bit hōhā (annoying) – but I still love him at the end of the day,” adds Sarah. “We had fun.”
