The dust has barely settled after the final episode of Married at First Sight NZ and the former contestants are dealing with it in varying ways. Some have shied away from the media attention and withdrawn from the public eye while others have been Instagramming up a storm.

Never one to take himself too seriously, our favourite member of the ‘Pretty Committee’, Ben Blackwell, has met with a lawyer to start the process of his divorce from Aaron Chisolm. And he wore a custom made t-shirt emblazoned with the words ‘Run Aaron’ to boot.

Ben celebrated at the Tiki Hut in Auckland’s viaduct with fellow contestant and new bestie Vicky Gleeson-Stokes, posting an image to Instagram with the caption ‘Nice drink after meeting with the Lawyer for the Big D #Divorce.’

The pair then caught up with My Kitchen Rules contestants Charlotte and Maddie, Jaryd, and runners up Heather and Mitch to watch the grand final episode.

Under New Zealand law, couples have to be separated for two years before they can file for divorce. Mediaworks have confirmed that divorce proceedings and the associated costs are the responsibility of the individual couples.

Ben and Aaron have remained friends and Ben told Woman’s Day that they’re planning on catching up at Christmas.

Aaron and Ben were all smiles on their wedding day.

“I felt like a bit of an idiot watching myself on TV,” Aaron confessed, but insisted his heartbreak was short lived.

“Ben and I were only together six weeks and most of it was rocky, so I’m well and truly over it. After the vow renewal Ben actually invited me out to dinner. At first I was like, ‘No way, you just broke up our marriage!’ but I ended up going and we had a nice night. It was all the closure I needed.”
