The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are due to visit Australia and New Zealand for a seven-day tour in November, and their newly released itinerary reveals the pair will be taking in plenty of sights during their stay!
Charles and Camilla will begin the tour in Wellington and travel to Dunedin, Nelson, Ngaruawahia, New Plymouth and then Auckland before moving onwards to Australia. Charles will also visit Westport.
The royal couple’s visit is tied closely to themes of culture, community and conservation, with highlights including visits to the Orokonui Ecosanctuary, the Tūrangawaewae Marae (home of the Māori King Movement) and a viewing of a waka armada on the Waikato River. Fittingly, their visit to New Zealand coincides with our national Conservation Week, which runs from November 1-8.
In Auckland, Charles will visit Nga Rangatahi Toa, an organisation that helps young people into work, education and training through the use of creative arts mentoring. Camilla will attend a literary reception at Otago University.
The couple will arrive by train Dunedin’s historic station and will sample the best food and wine during their stay in Nelson.
This is Charles’ ninth visit to New Zealand and Camilla’s second. The trip will also coincide with Charles’ birthday, which he’ll spend in Western Australia celebrating with local families at a beach barbecue in Cottesloe.
The royal duo were last in New Zealand in 2012 as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Tour, where they met with local athletes, enjoyed a theatre performance and even tried their hand at rug-making.
