At a star-studded ceremony at Auckland’s Spark Arena, the 21-year-old performed her single ‘Green Light’ and got the biggest applause of the night. Lorde also won album of the year for Melodrama, single of the year for Green Light, best solo artist, best pop artist and the international achievement award.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was another highlight for the crowd, with a constant string of people dropping by her table to say hello to her and her partner Clarke Gayford.

She and Lorde seemed in awe of one another as they shared the stage, with Ms Ardern saying they were mutual fangirls and giving her a massive hug.

“I am so happy to have such an articulate, exciting, young, beautiful leader in our country,” Lorde gushed.
