Reality television star Caitlyn Jenner is unhappy with US President Donald Trump’s policies on the transgender community and may be considering a move into politics.
Jenner, who is widely recognised for transitioning to living as a woman two years ago, has spoken out against the Trump administration’s decision to removes trans-students access to bathrooms and locker rooms matching their identity.
In an interview with BBC, the LGBTQI* rights advocate called Trump’s policies disappointing and said “the best thing the Republican party can do is to a better job with LGBT issues.”
When asked if she was considering a move into the political arena, the Republican supporter said it was a possibility and that she was already active behind the scenes.
“Over the next year I’m looking into it. I have to be very smart about this—where can I do a better job for my community, in bringing the Republican party around to LGBT issues?
“Is it from the outside – working from the perimeter, working with everybody to get Republicans to change their thinking? Or is it better off being on the inside – running for Senate or a Congress seat. Can I do more good there? Those are the things I’m evaluating.”
The 2020 US presidential elections may well be shaping up as the most star-studded with yet more speculation Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could be considering throwing his hat into the political ring.
“I think that it’s a real possibility,” the Baywatch star told GQ.
“A year ago, it started coming up more and more. There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’”
With Jenner and The Rock both considering careers in politics, the next US election may be the most interesting yet.
